Place your hands on the trunk of a tree. Dip your fingers or toes in a stream. Lie on the ground. Feel the earth beneath your feet. Drink in the flavor of the forest…all while immersed in the pristine sanctuary that is Turtle Island Preserve.

We are excited to offer you a new experience at Turtle Island. Please join us and Angie Stegall as she introduces you to the practice of Forest Bathing. So….what is Forest Bathing????

Forest bathing, also known as shinrin-yoku in Japanese, is a practice that involves spending time in a forest while immersing oneself in the natural environment. It encourages individuals to engage with the forest through their senses, such as:

  • Sight: Observing the trees, leaves, and other natural elements

  • Sound: Listening to the birdsong, wind rustling through the trees, and other sounds

  • Smell: Inhaling the fresh air, pine needles, and other scents

  • Touch: Feeling the bark, leaves, and soil

  • Taste: Paying attention to the flavors of the forest, such as berries or nuts

Forest bathing is a form of mindfulness and relaxation that aims to improve mental and physical well-being. It is believed to reduce stress, boost mood, improve sleep, and strengthen the immune system.

WHO: Appropriate for kids, teens, adults and seniors. Children under 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. We will be walking, not hiking and Forest Bathing is not a strenuous activity.
